Health

Until 2010, Vietnam has 1,030 hospitals, 44 rehabilitation hospitals, 622 surgeon offices with 250 000 beds.

Besides the state institutions, private medicine begins to develop: 14 000 surgeon offices, 7000 pharmacies, five hospitals with foreign investment.

Hospitals are present in every village, district, city and in every province. They are not yet well equipped in mountain. Therefore, hospitals in big cities like Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh - City ... are often excess loaded.

100% of communes are covered dispensary but lack of equipment, employees.  The weak economy in different remote regions makes medical care not always easy.

Viet Nam has its own system of medical schools around the country that trains thousands of doctors, nurses.... each year.

Among 250 000 employees, there are 47 000 doctors.

But there are still 30 millions Vietnamese who are not covered by medical insurance, among 92 million inhabitants.
Some of the cases are ethnic minorities in remote mountain where they live in autarky with little contact with the outside world.
A large proportion of people who are not covered, are the young people born after the war in 1975. They live on liberals trades that do not require dues.

Traditionally, the Vietnamese are very optimistic but fatalistic. They prefer to live the present. They think that if they pay for medical assurance, it means that disease will come.

But a new law makes medical care mandatory in 2014.

But fortunately, in general, medical services are not yet expensive as in other countries. In addition, the mutual system in the family, between friends ... is still strong to help them get treatment if necessary.

Employees, retired persons, people affected by war, farmer from 70 years old… are medically covered.
