Funeral feast

We believe that every human being, there are two parts: body and soul.
When a person is death, the soul goes into another world.

With optimism, we wait for the death with calm.
When the aged person is death, it is considered as a real party: People burn firecrackers (It is now prohibits because of fire accidents). Small children carry red scarves, the color of prosperity.

In village, the old men prepare the coffins in advance and put it in their house. In waiting for death, it’s used to be like a chest in which they put seeds, clothes...

The rich persons seek the beautiful places of burial with the help of a master of worship.

Before dying, the descendants give a name'' hem''. Why? This name is secret, which is cited gently when the family offers gifts to the death to avoid being seized by the evil spirits.

Before putting the dead in the coffin, we shower, put a handful of rice into his mouth, as some expenses on the road to go to another world.

We have habit to put the shrouds, clothes, combs ... in the coffin.

On the way to go to the cemetery, we offer gifts to evil spirits: Candy, food, money ... So, they do not go bother the new death.

On the tomb, we put a bowl of rice, an egg, a pair of upright chopstick to wish the dead to be reincarnated early.

Children are in mourning for 27 months by wearing a white turban or a small piece of tissue on the chest
Three days after the funeral, we organize the party to ask the dead if he is okay with his grave or not.

At forty ninth days after burial, we make the ceremony to wish best thing to death person.

One hundred days after the funeral, we present the food on the altar to invite the death to eat.
Each year, on arrival of the day of his death, the generation descendants make a copious meal to celebrate the anniversary of his death.
We believe that the birth is to begin a precarious existence.
The day we die, is to begin an eternal life. So we must celebrate it.

Some ethnic groups in North of the country kill many animals: Pig, buffalo ... to have party near the burial place.
Each participant, depending on the relationship with death comes to the funeral with a pig or rooster or a liters of rice wine.... to make a feast.
All these things must be used, either in the house of death, or at the cemetery before burial.
Some ethnic groups in Plateau of South share the things with death: Bicycle, television, bowl...... The descendants make a wooden house to cover these tools and around this house, they make the statues symbolizing fertility, prosperity ... hoping that the dead go to be reincarnated soon:

Now, the procedures are simplified in town and incineration is mandatory because of the lack of land.
But if, in the countryside, you can still bury the dead in the garden, even in the rice fields.
